Hi all! I just recently got certified as an esl teacher in Canada and I have some important questions about all things saudi related.
1. I have started applying in july, how soon can I hear a response?
2.How long does it take for the visa to get processed?
3. If i don't have a bachelor's which is english related, will I have any bumps or hurdles along the way?

Unless your BA or MA is in something English related, such as Applied Linguistics, English, TESOL, etc, you will not be able to get a legal work visa to go to Saudi Arabia from Canada. If you do have one of those, disregard. Also, if you're female, certain universities like PNU have ways around it according to what I'm hearing.

Its normal to wait long periods of time for Saudi employers. Sometimes they may ignore you for months and just when you've given up they'll contact you. Make sure you search the forum and find a reputable employer.

Malisef, Canadians, now like Americans and possibly soon to be Brits, need an English related degree. I personally don't know any way around that other than a high ranked prince intervening on your behalf at the Saudi Embassy in Ottawa. Maybe you can go back to the university you graduated from and ask them what they require to get a diploma changed to one that suits Saudi standards. I know this requires more time and money, but you have time I presume if you are young. As for money well.....Korea takes newly graduated students and will help you make some money while your at it. Also,Taiwan has universities that offer MAs in TESL. I applied at Payap university and was accepted two years ago, but I decided to ride it out here. I've also heard that Payap and other reputable universities are accepted worldwide.

1. I am a women of colour, religion: muslim, age: lets say I'm not thinking of writing a bucket list yet.

The "where can I save some money" question has been discussed at length over the past 9 or so months in the general and newbie forums; I suggest you check those forums out.

But instead of focusing on your characteristics, what are your qualifications---that is, your education, teacher training certificate, and number of years of experience and the type(s) of teaching situation(s) you've taught in? If you have zero teaching experience, scratch this region off your list.

Someone down at "The Saracen's Head" just told me that to get a visa you need to have converted to the One True Faith. Short Arm Inspection required of all male candidates.
