Well, scot, the above dates are based on astronomical calculations used in North America, and not on the actual sighting of the moon with the naked eyes or through binoculars as followed in the Magic Kindom.
So, in the Magic Kingdom, Monday 8th of July is the sighting day for Ramadan, and whomsoever sees the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan by naked eyes or through binoculars has to report to the nearest court and register his testimony.

The phenomenon has to be reported by a sane, Muslim male. I fail on two of these points -and I am far way from the Land of AbdulWahab ! |

According to the Islamic calendar it should start on the 9th July.
So Ramadan Kareem to all whether 08 or 9th July... |

Be prepared for an increase in food prices. Ditto for taxi fares (if you're not astute.) |

So the minute the crescent can first be seen tonight, what should I expect? |

Nothing spectacular for you, but for the Muslims a sense of peace and enlightenment! And mega queues in the food shops! |

What used to freak me out in Riyadh was the very nearly "Omega Man" (read: "I Am Legend" for those young of heart) experience that Riyadh streets would take about 15-20 before Maghreb...scary! |

But it might not ... depends on the sighting of the moon ... presumably, the Gregorian calendar 'rounding up' avoids lunar timing by using the leap-year, which marked an primeval step in standardizing everything; alas. |

It's official: Ramadan to begin in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Palestine and Jordan on Wednesday 10th of July.
Ramadan moon has not been sighted in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Palestine and Jordan and Wednesday, July 10, is the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.

Seriously? Say it ain't so!
Bachelors forced to cook in Ramadan
By Faisal Aboobacker Ponnani, Saudi Gazette | July 28, 2013

DAMMAM – Non Muslim bachelors in the Kingdom, who usually depend solely on restaurants for their everyday meals, have started cooking as restaurants and hotels remain closed during day time in Ramadan. The non-availability of restaurants during morning times has forced non-Muslim bachelors to cook in their accommodation.
Prejith Kumar, IT professional, said, “This is my first year in Kingdom during Ramadan and I usually depend on hotels for my meals and breakfasts since I do not know to cook. But now I am forced to cook, especially during lunch time, and have started six days ago. Cooking is very hard, but what am I to do?”
Atul Watal, a bachelor who stays in a company compound, said, “Since Ramadan started my canteen has stopped mess during lunch time. Now I have started cooking with my other non-Muslim friends who are staying in nearby apartments. This is the only solution to eat fresh food during lunch time.”
Anthony Shaheen, a Lebanese, commented that, “It is trying to spend Ramadan here because of the closure of restaurant and hotels in the day time, and since I do not know how to cook, I purchase some cakes and nuts and juices from nearby supermarkets to eat in day time. From yesterday, I also started cooking some food for lunch as it is better than eating snacks during lunch time.”
Ronaldo, a Filipino national who works as mechanical engineer and completely reliant on hotels for his breakfast, lunch and dinner for the past 17 years, said, “When Ramadan comes, he purchases additional meals after his dinner from the same hotel and then heats it up the following day to have for breakfast and lunch.

A Saudi male forced to cook would be a sign of the end of the world coming, but for anyone else that should be a part of your bachelors degree
