Maybe a better question is what is the median age of the typical MALE foreign teach who is working in China for more than 2 years?

My guess is the answer would be about 43 or so.

So the next question is how much stupid stuff did you do as a teen and ever get busted for it? So at age 16 when you and your friends stayed out all night and did some mischievous acts of vandalism and got arrested for it - should this bar you from employment (anywhere?) but especially China?

30 years later and a university education and 25 years of working - parenting experience and life experience - should you be judged by something you did as a teen? Moreover should you even mention it?

Is that even going to still be on your record? Most states in the U.S. allow you to expunge non-violent misdemeanors after a few years. The problem is that you have to hire a lawyer (bye bye $$$) and I don't know how many months it takes to finish the process. Sucks if you just found out about the new visa requirement this year because you won't have enough time to clean your record up. But it's obviously something a lot of teachers are going to have to do if they want to teach abroad, since now it looks like every country in Asia is going to make a squeaky clean record a requirement.

Oh, and I thought of a couple of crimes in the U.S. that aren't crimes in China:

Urinating in public (in the U.S. this will get you on the sex offender registry)
Drinking in public/public intoxication (i.e., walking while drunk - yes, people do get arrested for this in the U.S., at least in certain states)

You mean before you were 18? I don't think so; one of my acquaintances had a felony charge (knocked down to a misdemeanor) when he was 16 and it didn't show up.

Most states in the U.S. allow you to expunge non-violent misdemeanors after a few years. The problem is that you have to hire a lawyer (bye bye $$$) and I don't know how many months it takes to finish the process.

In states that have expungement ordinances, the expungement is automatic after X number of years. You'll need a lawyer to expunge a DUI in most cases, but traffic fines and the like and nonviolent offenses are automatically expunged because the states don't have the resources to keep up the records.

If you want something expunged that you did last year, you'll probably need a lawyer (depending upon the severity of the offense). After ten years, most cities automatically expunge most misdemeanors after ten years.

I had a pretty serious moving violation ten years ago (it wasn't my fault even though I got stuck with the ticket), but the criminal check came back with zero offenses.

In most states now, DUIs are unexpungeable. I think there are 5-7 where that is not the case.

So for those that followed my post, I did indeed get the work permit from Beijing in less than a week (5 days to be exact) and this work permit was applied for after July 1st with no criminal background check required.

Been waiting to answer this until I got my passport back with the new rp in it. I was worried because I am passing through the five year mark, which did cause some unnecessary worrying. Nothing was ever mentioned about a CBC.

Having my original diploma was mentioned, but in the end not required. It did take several weeks for the process to finish, why I got worried.

it's possible that your school has connections and that they used them to get around these new requirements.

I know several people who have had their RP renewed in Beijing, applying after 1st. July (myself included). None have been asked about the CRC, none have been required to submit anything different than they did in previous years.

The only inconsistency has been the length of time it took. One person had his in 5 days, others anywhere between 5 and 15 days. (Working days)

It seems that on the face of it, RP renewals in Beijing have not changed, with the exception of the timescale.

The person looking after my renewal knew I did not need to travel. Several others got theirs in a week. Not sure they were hitting the five year issue though.
