Hello everybody...
I'm glad there's a place like this where one can get info from a lot of experienced teachers/ travelers/expats.
I taught ESL for 6 months in Bali (anybody can feel free to PM me if they want information about that) but now I'm looking to go back to South America. I was in Chile in 2011- I did the English Opens Doors program (which, again, anybody could PM me about if they wanted).
I have my CertTESOL qualification and a bachelor's degree.
My experience seems to be confirming what the people are saying on this forum: if you email schools in Chile you probably won't hear back from them. I must have emailed 20 different schools. Though, for a lot of them I emailed the "info" address ([email protected]) which is probably not the best avenue to get in touch with somebody relevant.
Anyway, I have a few questions for you experienced Chile teachers:
1. What are some schools one should be very cautious about going to teach in? Are there any (and what are their names) schools where teachers repeatedly have negative experiences?
2. Any chain schools (Berlitz, EF, etc.) that teachers in Chile have had positive experiences with?
3. Any recommended schools? I would prefer to be in a school where I don't have to travel to different locations throughout the day. I also really don't want to be in Santiago (I know, I know...that really limits my options but I'm not a huge city person and I also love to surf)
Thank you in advance to anybody who takes the time to answer these questions. I'm off to comment on some of the English Opens Doors threads- I actually had an extremely positive OVERALL experience (the teaching was so so)
