It doesn't sound like my sponsor will want to do it as they feel it's my personal responsibility and not theirs.

All companies seem to have a "fixer". Try to get the fixer's email address and make a direct plea to him. Offer some "baksheesh" for successful help. He may...or not, go for it.

Anyway, also see "How can I get the proper paperwork to bring my cat to Riyadh" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=94135&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=cat&start=0).

I read the link, but still unsure about how to get the import permit and the costs involved.

You really need to take the time to read the links others have provided. For example, in the one I sent you, a poster stated the following:

Quote:
For the record, we did get the cat in. The vet from Life & Nature got the import permit for us & our sponsor picked it up & delivered it to the airport. Customs barely looked at it.

For anyone who believes that pets don't form attachments to their people, you really need to read this:

Separation Anxiety in Dogs and Cats
http://www.1800petmeds.com/education/separation-anxiety-dog-cat-29.htm

Leaving your pets with 'someone' while you work for a long time in Saudi is really a BAD idea. It's traumatic and they don't just easily adjust to a new owner.
Quote:
Many social animals—birds, horses, whales, monkeys—experience separation anxiety because they are genetically programmed to live within a social structure strengthened by emotional bonds, and this applies to dogs and cats as well. Separation anxiety in dogs and cats causes undesirable behavior, and behavior problems are the #1 reason pets are euthanized.
The separation is from their HUMAN, not from their environment or previous house.
