Firstly, isn't there somewhere on here that I can post my entire contract to be reviewed? I can't find that, but I thought I've seen it before.

I am a newbie, and just got a contract. I haven't even spoken to the guy, but he has written me 2 good emails. The contract seems as good as I've seen for someone new, especially this late in the game. It's in a smaller city 350k ppl in Henan.

One thing that stands out is that it says accident insurance is paid for, but health is covered at infirmary, and they will help me find health insurance.

What should that cost me?

How long can I probably hold off this place while looking for other offers?

Thanks

The only reason I am looking for other offers is to be in a nicer city, or nicer Uni campus.

The school is probably offering you free health care at the school infirmary. That won't amount to much if you have anything more serious than a cold. Schools will set you up with health insurance from PICC for about 1000 yuan per year. It's not bad and covers routine things that might go wrong but if you get any serious illness you might find they don't cover it. You can buy additional insurance from another company if you find something better.

Still not sure about that job yet? Well classes start in less than two weeks, and I suspect you'll find the schools you're talking with are going to move on to people who are actually ready to come over now. Good luck.

I think the only way you can post your contract here is if you cut and paste it.

+1

Nellychess, haven't we been down this road before? Stop looking over the fence for greener grass, take the job, and work out the rest when you're here. Otherwise you're going to end up with either no job, or the job that absolutely nobody else would take.

As to the contract, if there's something in it you don't like, or think is dodgy, then ask them to amend it. Otherwise just sign it and start the visa process before it's too late.

I've seen a post recently which quoted the PICC policy at 1500 RMB pa.
My on campus clinic is open 24/7 but I needed a student to come with me to translate.
There is a pharmacy next door and I was in and out of Dr and pharmacist in 10 mins.
I recall that as my last medical revealed 'fatty liver', any problems from that were excluded from the PICC cover.
OP I agree with others that you have got to take the plunge.

picc insurance cost is 1680 rmb.
(may differ by age of ft, or province, or phase of moon, and so on...)

no coverage outside of china. no emergency repatriation.

you'll be better off asking (put in the contract) that school will give you an
allowance equal to the cost of school-provided insurance that you can apply
to the cost of purchasing your own ex-pat policy.

That's a good idea.
Although over time it will become an 'allowance' and suffer the same fate as airfare refunds.
Anything with repatriation in it will cost an arm and a leg.
A former colleague suffered a stroke and in fact the school got him home.
He was able to fly on a commercial service.
