Jimbo, your written English needs a little 'honing'.

Other than that casual observation, I can put you in touch with my 'boss' who'll offer you a job, in a uni, provided that you have the necessary 'bits of paper'.

I'm a son of Paddy so don't take offence.

Hey Paddy's son - your wit could do with a bit of 'honing'. No offense intended of course.

I have been offered work in other areas of China and I have never had problems finding work elsewhere - hence my surprise at being told this by employer's in Jieyang.

My previous post was made out of genuine concern. If other Irish people have experienced the same it would be interesting to know.

Thanks.

Most of us are communicative method teachers rather than linguistics-trained.

One might teach spoken language from a linguistic approach only on the most basic level such as the phoneme and how it is produced. Once you get out of the mouth, most of linguistic theory doesn't really apply until one attains a certain mastery. THEN it becomes very interesting, but not wholly necessary outside of semantics.

One need not have a degree in linguistics to teach EFL. One should know a few important facts, but on the beginning level, once you leave the most basic theories and practices, linguistics is of little use in the primary and most of the secondary levels.
