Those family sessions can be lethal. I remember one Easter do back in 96 when my female friend's father said;'Don't worry, I am a doctor and If you pass out, I can revive you.' The Poles then tried to ply me with ever increasingly strong voddies, which I cunningly switched whilst people were distracted by the food. The said doctor didn't get up for two days!

Everyone knows when you switch, sometimes you get called on it. If everyone is pretty drunk and you're outside you can also just dump the shot past your head instead of into your mouth but that's also just a waste of good vodka Smile

i had a night where i was really seeing stars, had to sit in the bedroom a bit to catch my breath, and the suggestion was to eat a spoonful of soda powder. uuhhmm....it didn't help.

I remember one disgraceful night that was only meant to be a couple of beers - me and my friend ended up sitting in some all night bar until 4am drinking, then we went to the kebab shop and ended up buying more beer instead of food. End result - I couldn't find my way home. I was jumping on random trams/buses because I was cold (why I didn't take a taxi, I have no idea - it's only 17zl from the centre to home for me) - and when I finally managed to get on the right bus home, I fell asleep and missed my stop, then fell asleep on the way back and missed the stop for a second time.

Painful and exceptionally stupid, I was sick for two days Sad

Don't beat yourself up...we've all done that in Poland. No black eye=successful night.

The humiliating part was waking up back in the centre after finally catching the right bus Sad

Out of interest, back when you first came to Poland, what was it like for pubs and clubs?

In some ways it was better as there weren't as many. Harry's Pub (the closed place next to the Londoner) was the heart of expat life in the rynek. It was very busy, did good steaks and all the bar staff were dolled up in tiny red micro-dresses. Most of the Poz oldies get teary-eyed thinking about that place. Stary Rats and Sarp were the only other places on the rynek. The Dubliner was popular at the weekends and Stajenka. Clubbing in Poz has always been terrible. Places were more 'Polish' then with the candles and stuff. I really don't think Poz has many good bars these days. Places like Dragon are just full of w*nkers.

Furthermore, our kudos decreased rapidly when Ryanair and Wizz srarted flying to Poznan. I wonder why!

And the expat population was much, much more diverse. In Poznan you had the AIB lot training WBK staff, and Coopers, Pricewaterhouse and Arthur Anderson were all staffed by expats for example. Now that most of the expats are teachers and not exotic in anyway, dating has got harder. The locals know that the probability of their English boyfriend being a drunk who loves going out with his mates is much higher if he works in 'education'. The job Ecocks has posted is a clear example of a post which involves little 'teaching'.

There's a great little section there called Dave's EFL pub... I'd say it's perfect.

Oh man, that's genius funny. Thanks for the link! Very Happy
