Hi, everybody.
I will be graduating in May 2014, am interested in teaching in Saudi, and I was wondering: when exactly should I apply? Also, what kind of a wait time should I expect? |

Graduating with what? Also, what other qualifications (teacher training cert, TEFL experience) do you have? In other words, do you have the qualifications employers expect to see? Anyway, a good look at the umteen ads for the Kingdom on the Cafe's job board should give you an answer. |

Well, I will have a BA in political science, but more importantly, I have the CELTA and several years of experience in the field, here and in Egypt. |

If you have a BA plus CELTA plus Middle East experience, you shouldn't have a problem in securing a contract in Saudi Arabia. Native speakers are in great demand in the Kingdom. If you graduate in May, that should give you enough time to apply for jobs, attend interviews & complete all the visa formalities in good time for an August or September start. A word of caution however. Research any employment offers carefully before accepting. Good luck! |

Thank you all for your information, I appreciate it.
Yes, I do have Mid East experience, I taught in Egypt on two occasions.
So, the only countries I have visited are those that I can just get a visa at the airport (if I need one at all), so for Saudi, would I be looking at an extended period of my passport sitting in a consulate on the East Coast? |

I mean, might I be able to go on vacation in another country while they are processing my visa, or would I had to wait at home? |

You need to be in your country of origin to apply for a Saudi employment visa, so that will mean waiting at home until it's done. In some cases it's possible to apply for a visit visa if you are abroad, but I would advise against accepting an employment offer from any organization that offers you that option. Working on a visit visa is illegal. |

Considering you won't have your BA until spring 2014, you're jumping the gun with your questions about visa processing. Best to wait until you've completed your education and applied for positions before contemplating what the Saudi visa process will be like. |

Fair enough, but people in a lot of field apply for jobs in their last semester, and was wondering if I could do that here. |

Do you possess two passports? Otherwise what you are contemplating will be tricky. |

No harm in applying but you risk having your CV rejected since applicants are expected to have a completed university degree and not one in progress. Plus, you're already limited as to which jobs you can apply for because your degree won't be related to English language teaching. |
