|
|
Hi,
I had an interview the other day and all went well we hit it off pretty good. We both decided to take a couple of days to think about it. The next day I recieved an email from the school with a couple of more things they wanted to ask me. Most of the questions seemed normal then I came across an interesting one.
The question
HAVE YOU EVER USED DRUGS?
What do you think about this question? Has anyone ever been asked a similar question? Should I be offended? Why would they ask this question?
Of course many will respond say no (weather that is the truth or no).
Just curious what people think about this as an interview question? |

Why yes, I have used ibuprofin, asprin, acetemeniphine, penecillin, tricyclocyllin, bicyclocyllin, alcohol, nicotine, caffine, ginsing, green tea, divinorum, nitros oxide and novicane (at the dentists), rogaine, bactrine, listerine, flouride and head-and-shoulders for my unsightly dandruff.
Have YOU ever used drugs? |

Could you clarify that question please, what do you mean by 'drugs' Do you mean legal...
Just some extra thinking time while the question is reformulated and re-presented.
Is this a requirement for the job? I am sure I could learn if I were given the opportunity.
Evasion of the question...
I don't believe that drugs and teaching agree with each other. this is position of responsibility and taking drugs while in a position of responsibility is not something I have never done and would never consider doing |

What nonsense! Its like when I went to USA and they asked on the visa form
'Are you, or have you ever been involved in any terrorist activity?'.
'Oh as a matter of fact I was involved with Al Qaida a few years ago but I've become a born again muslim since then. Can I go now?' |

I like the question on the US visa waiver form about participating in or being convicted of acts of "moral turpitude" for the same reason, vre! |

I don't suppose you could turn it around and ask them if they had? |

Yeah, those US visa form questions probably do more harm to the US reputation than just about anything. Here honey, I need you to fill out this form about whether you've ever been a prostitute before I can take you home to meet my parents.
I had to take a drug test once for a factory job. I had long hair at the time, and so did my boss. He asked me very seriously if I could pass the test. Oh, yeah, no problem. Are you sure? Cause if you aren't we can wait on it. Just let me know.
Later I was driving buses and it definitely was a requirement, federal regulation. Gotta be careful not to eat too many poppy seeds beforehand.
Drug testing for Engllish Teachers - maybe that's the answer to all the professionalization debate.
Oh boy I just brought up America AND professionalization. I hope I didn't say too much. |

I'm just wondering,
should I be a smart ass in my reply, or will just a simple no do?
I kind of want the job but am shocked by the question. Maybe I don't want to work somewhere where they ask that kind of question. If they said something like "this company requires all employees take a drug test before we hire them" I would be ok with that.
They also asked me about my parents, and their work etc.. |

What on earth does that have to do with your suitability for the job???
I'd be telling them where they could very gently place their job right about now... |

Their question should have been: Do you use flonase? What about listerine? Have you ever taken a large amount of Robitussen?
All these drugs come up positive when taking a drug test, but the quanities are so low that they are passed through. As long as you don't smoke weed regularly, do crack, or herion-you should be fine. oh and estacy...hum I work at a toxicology lab right now (til I leave for Japan) and all we do is drug tests....
But as for weird questions...I just got maried to a Marine and some idiot at his unit asked me if I need a visa. I mean duh I am a American citizen. |

The production procedures for British banknotes leave certain trace residues on teh surface that might set off anti-something warning bells in sufficient quantities. My mum was working with a lot of money (chief cashier type position) a few days before taking a flight.
Guess who got taken aside for questioning by security. |

was the interview in america?
its fu.cking ridiculous. there are very few things which get me as angry as drug tests/questions. i mean maaaaaaaaad.
i read in the paper today that a high school - one that you dont pay for, mind you, just a normal school like you and i went to - are doing random drug tests on kids between 11 (yes, eleven) and 16. if they fail theyre booted out the school. WHAT HARM CAN COME FROM HAVING A BIT OF REEFER AFTER SCHOOL? they arent even paying to go to school, its mandatory for kids to go to school, now theyre kicking them out because of what they do outside of school.
im not saying driving a lorry around whizzing your ti.ts off on pills is ok, im just saying theres no grey area - its either youre clean, welcome aboard or youre a drug using, evil, noncommited, unresponsible turd.
if i were you i would have told them to shove the question up thier arse. but hey. |

Congratulations, you're a very brave gurl. You can pass along my favorite Marine Corps joke to your husband:
Q: What's the difference between the Marine Corps and the Boy Scouts?
A: The Boy Scouts have adult leadership.

John - USMC (1963 - 1967) |
