Consider yourself lucky. I asked my FAO if classes started on Monday (I've been at the same school for a few years and we don't always start on week 1). I got an "I'll tell you soon!"
That was a few days ago. |
'Am I being paid from Monday?'

So the vacation comes to a close - not that I am doing anything as it is 90F outside and I prefer to stay inside under the AC ( man the bill is gonna be high for August...)
The DOS's admin answered my text about when classes start with Monday but when I asked for my schedule she said " I dunno..."
So no schedule and only a few days before classes.
Anyone else have this issue?
It is slightly important to me to know when I need to show up to work. |
I hear ya', my friend! I'm in the same boat as you are ... starting a new position at a fairly new school, teaching new students in a new I.S. department.
I GUESS I'll get a call about 15 minutes before my first class, but I'm hoping for a little more information than that. I stupidly missed that last (of many) "dinners" the other night with my boss, so I'm probably back on a "Need to Know" basis.
Regardless, I'm going to make a concerted effort not to get too excited this year. Take it slow, roll with the punches, don't let that blood pressure get too high and out-of-hand!
I hope you will ALL join me in my deep-breathing exercises and counting to ten. Good Luck to everyone, and have a great 2013-14 school year!

Today's text message exchange.
Me "Hi Mary [DOS] I start teaching on Monday, right? Do you have information about my schedule yet? Can you send it to me?"
Her : "Yes - You start classes on Monday. I have your schedule, but now I am going home and it is in my office. I will send it to you on Monday."
I'm somewhat lucky in that my classes this semester are essentially just a repeat of that which I taught a year ago, and everything is in notebooks and on USBs, so it's just a case of repeating a lot of the same work, therefore largely possible to wing the classes at short notice.
As others have said, just roll with the punches - expecting too much forward planning, organization or professionalism (by our standards at least) will often do nothing short of give ya an aneurysm. Prepare as best as you can and go with the flow for the rest. |

My schedule finally came! And so did a note about a meeting on Sunday afternoon...
Sheesh - I hate meetings - and I hate meetings on non-workdays.
There better be pizza... |
