Same - same (very popular in the Middle East.)

And it can often be used in place of "same difference," which, I suspect, may be a somewhat confusing phrase to some students.

John

Hmm, I wonder how come we never say "as near as I know."

Of course, we also never (or almost never) say, "how short are you," how young are youm" or "how little does he weigh." Very Happy

Regards,
John

A phrase that may have some utility in a classroom - how stoopid are you?

I am agree with [insert name of classmate who was speaking just before].

A favourite cop-out phrase.

"So and so", as in "How was your holiday?" "So and so."

I think the Italians invented sexy, which is why it's the default adjective to "sex":
A "sexy shop" is less about the window dressing and more about the objects for sale...

@JohnSlat

I once heard "same same .... but different" in Thailand, I think. Funnily enough, it made perfect sense!

You hear that a lot doncha, johnslat? Spanglish. I'd never heard it in the classroom until I started teaching in DF; apparently it's a verbatim translation.
