I agree that something's very much amiss. Plus, Aummua claims to teach English at UAE University in Al Ain (with only a BA earning a "handsome" salary of $2500/month) in some unnamed department yet isn't familiar with the university's foundation year program (http://www.uaeu.ac.ae/vpue/university_college/foundation_program/index.shtml) nor its continuing ed center (http://cec.uaeu.ac.ae/en/default.asp)---both of which provide English language courses. There's also the uni's UGRU English program (http://www.ugr.uaeu.ac.ae/academic_departments/english/index.shtml). But anyway...

How do the French spell it? "La Trolle"?

Boy, for English teachers (with alleged graduate educations) you guys...you really can't read, can you?

Nowhere did I say I was making $2500 in the UAE.

I've already stated I'm unfamiliar with the two programs you mentioned. In order to maintain a degree of anonymity, I'm going to refrain from telling you more, because I don't know if I work with you.

The point of my post is that you don't need a MA to make good money teaching ESL. I started making 800 a month in China, then made 2k in Taiwan, then 4k in Saudi. That's 4k, with a BA and 2 years experience. The UAE contract pays about 6k, but the cost of living in the Emirates, plus the absolute need for a car, doesn't make it all worthwhile...

In five years at UAEU I've never met anyone teaching with a BA. Also, instructors get three year contracts while tenure track faculty are offered an initial contract of four years. The only people receiving less than three years are those on a "visitor" contract - which pays much less and offers few extra benefits. Adjunct positions pay even less.

However, since you are making bank on your BA and two year contracts may I show you some very productive farmland you may want to purchase?

The visitor contract pays much less? How much less, exactly? I'm getting 6k a month.

Is there anybody in this thread that's under 30 or am I arguing with a bunch of geriatrics who are giving advice based on their experience from the glorious 90's?

Dear aummua,

Actually, you're providing amusement and entertainment (of a sort.) I only hope that those with less experience are not taking you seriously. That would be too bad indeed.

Keep it up, though. You're occasionally quite funny. Very Happy

Regards,
John

So that's at least one geriatric.

Dear aummua,

Yup, been around the block a few times. That's why I can spot a fake so easily Very Happy.

With luck, you may acquire the same ability when you grow up.

Geriatric John

Well, only with luck, hopefully. I certainly wouldn't want to WILLFULLY spend my twilight years "spotting fakes" on the internet.

Dear aummua,

Oh, I don't think you need to worry. Not too many make it to those "twilight years." Reading your posts, I get the impression you'll check out before that.

Regards,
John

This is why your posts are confusing. From the China job-related forum (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=103895):
