| Those with Korean experience do not often fare well in Saudi Arabia. |
I taught in Korea, then went back to Canada where I also taught, then China, so with 5 years of mostly hell between my amazing Korean gig and now, I think I can handle what is coming, but that being said, I don't want to move to KSA and then not be able to experience it because I spend all my extra time planning and grading. |
What is there to experience in Saudi Arabia especially for a woman? On the other hand if you have experienced hell for 5 years you may as well do it and get paid well. Make sure you come here on an employment visa that leads to an Iqama or a temporary employment visa. Those two visas are not work visas or business visas and are legal unlike the two I just mentioned. |
Well, TBH, I won't know for sure until I get there, will I. A lot of the allure has to do with the promise of making bank. And, as I have said, I like new adventures!
Re: visas, how do you make sure you are getting the right one? Thanks! |

In the ELI prep-year program at KAU in Jeddah, they teach 18 hours a week and have 10 hours of office time. Many people don't stay for the 10 hours and can easily leave right after teaching for the day.
I transferred from the ELI to the Dept. of European Languages at the start of the new teaching year. We teach 12 hours (with 6 hours of office time) per week. |
Thanks for your input. Do you like Jeddah? |

I'd avoid schools like KFU (Shabaka is the contractor). They want warm bodies, not teachers. |
Why do female Ss require more prep? |

Throughout this thread, you've mentioned having time to do fun things on the weekend, experiencing KSA, and the allure of Saudi Arabia because you like new adventures. Yet, when asked what adventures you expect to encounter, you responded that you won't know until you get to the Kingdom. You seem to be setting your expectations rather high in terms of how you envision your quality of life as well as work in Saudi Arabia while ignoring the fact you'd very likely end up working for one of the major dodgy contracting companies. In reality, it may not turn out to be the kind of adventure you were hoping for. Point is, head to KSA with the intent of making money, but lower your overall expectations of an adventurous lifestyle. In other words, be realistic. |

Thanks, that is what I wanted to know.
As far as not knowing till I get there, I don't care about drinking or going out, what I want to do is be able to learn about a new culture, eat new food, cook new things, go for runs and do yoga, work on my masters, stuff like that. I know that I can't run around the city like I am used to doing, but having never been to the Middle East, I won't know until I get there. |

Generally, female students are more demanding of their teachers and DO want to learn. |

Ok, nothing wrong with that. I love teaching, I just don't like spending every waking hour prepping! The more the Ss give me, the more I give back to them. Thanks for your input. |

Plenty of people at Aramco have Korean experience and are doing absolutely fine here.
Princess, a lot will depend on where you work especially in terms of the amount of admin you'll have. A uni position is going to have more paperwork, for example.
You are unlikely to find students, even female ones, as motivated as in Korea. While that may be a negative, the positive is that students here are far less demanding in the classroom. Gone is the competitive mentality that pervades the Korean classroom. And my workplace also has far less demanding and more understanding management than in Korea where the dollar drove every aspect of the teaching business.
Personally, I find it far less stressful working here than in the so-called land of the morning calm. |

To keep things in perspective, a university prep year position is about the only type of teaching environment she's qualified for since she's obviously a female and doesn't have the kinds of diverse teaching opportunities males have. |

| If you work at Princess Noura University as a direct hire, you will have 20 teaching hours and 20 prep hours per week. You will teach 2 classes per day and use the same lesson plan for both. Lesson plans are provided. There is an excellent gym near campus housing with both an indoor and outdoor running track. No, I am not a recruiter and no, I do not know which companies are currently recruiting for direct hire positions. |
