| That company has a bad habit of having people with no real life experience in ESL doing the recruiting for them. They also seem to be highly ignorant in hiring and promoting for management/admin positions. I'd recommend anyone that has experience in the industry to steer clear of them. |

| Somehow I find the idea of a language school calling itself "Disney" says everything you need to know about them. |

My ex-girlfriend worked there.
I'm fairly sure she suffered a nervous breakdown while working there. It sounded like pure language-mill hell. |

I had the extreme misfortune of interviewing with Disney for a manager's position back in May of this year. I had a total of five interviews with various people including the recruiter. I was told that I was the strongest candidate they had ever had the pleasure of interviewing (I have an MA and 30 years of teaching experience at all levels)................................
I have spoken with lots of people who either worked or are still working for Disney. They all hate(d) it for various reasons- disorganization, contractual lies, long hours, no holidays, and worst of all, dominating and dishonest Chinese managers.
The best advice I can give you is stay away from the place. |
I'm guessing you did not talk to the people who worked there until after your interviews, or else I would wonder why someone with your experience would want to work there in the first place. I must admit that it looked good to me as well 2 months ago - better than average salary and a free trip to Thailand for a free 120 ESL course. But after reading more about it on Dave's and other boards, I pulled my name from consideration even before the first interview. Maybe it would have been different for the manager's position you interviewed for, but it seems they want people who...nevermind, I don't want to offend anyone who works there and likes it. |

And what would that be? That it's a Mickey mouse operation? |

SURPRISE !!!
1) I am in my late 40's - age has never been an issue. Beginning with my interviews with DE, up to now (my 12th month as an FT).
2) One of the most ethical and tolerant companies that I have ever worked for.
3) They do not franchise.
4) Outside of private international schools perhaps - DE has without a doubt, the best compen$ation package of any major chain schools. YL's or Adults! Yup, you're gonna have 22 contact hours + 15 office hours, but...
5) They have their own in-house recruiting team as well. Why use an outside recruiter?
Sure, some centers are better than other, but at the end of the day, WORK IS WORK. Right? Every now and then we all have to put on our big-boy pants and just deal. No work situation is perfect.
The End.
Cheers! |

Stop...that's a pretty HUGE but..... 37 hours......
Why don't you go ahead and break down the salary for us so we can determine how it stands instead of being blindly asked to take your word for about how good it is. What is the average monthly salary for new hires? How much paid holiday time do the new hires get? House? Housing allowance? Any perks worth mentioning please do so.
BTW...I just love how you spell compensation with a $ in it.... |
