Fluent U. I think there is some paid content but also plenty of high quality free stuff to keep you busy for a long time.

| Thanks for the tips, I hooked up with the China Foreign Teachers Union and will take the free Chinese Lessons they give at Peking University on Weekends. The other choice turned me off because of the spam, but thanks guys. |
You should post more detail about the location. I'm sure people here would love to meet you. To learn Chinese of course. |

I highly recommend the pimsleur method of learning. Sure you may only learn 150-200 words, but those 150-200 words will be infinately more useful than the stuff you learn in a classroom setting. True story: I have been learning Chinese for 8-10 months at a university in Canada, and was at the "intermediate level" and I could barely describe details of myself. But I know how to say "airplane"! The point I am trying to make, is that the pimsleur is a good way of learning Chinese without having to sit at a university and learn in a traditional manner. Don't get me wrong, I have learned quite a bit of Chinese, but the pimsleur is a way better bang for the buck at the intellectual level. Use the pimsleur via piratebay and use busuu.com and you can have a full chinese course with written/reading/listening/hearing covered from all angles.
Good luck! |

Second that. Using Pimsleur for Japanese and it's much more practical. Format is very good. |

Exactly, and like I said, and I don't think I mentioned clearly enough, was that the Pimsleur is more "Me" time. Whereas in a classroom that 50-75 minute class is mainly sitting around listening to a teacher talk with you casually barking in. The focus on grammar while using the pimsleur method is amazing. You learn how to speak like a human instead of just learning useless vocabulary that you can't string sentences together with properly. |
