KFU = King Faisal University
KFUPM = King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals

I think the compounds with the really nice amenities that some foreigners get because they are considered to be really valuable run about 30,000 US a year to stay in. At any rate they are very expensive. It is doubtful they are putting a teacher up in one of those. They also refer to cheap apartments that they rent out for teachers as compounds also. That is probably what you will get. Any housing area where they house women is going to be walled.

Can answer both questions.

KFU and KFUPM are 2 different places. KFU = nightmare and KFU = dream

KFU compound is a walled complex with 7 or 8 buildings in a constant state of repair.

KFUPM is on-campus housing complete with athletic and shopping options.

KFUPM pays better, provides more overtime and opportunities to make money and is in the Khobar area - shopping and restaurants and 20 minutes to the Bahrain border.

If you have a choice between these two places - KFUPM is the correct call.

PM me for more details on both places.

KFUPM is a campus not a compound. Teachers and families have access to shopping and sports facilities. Students are in a different paret of the campus. Transport is available to town for teachers and familes. Nice place.

Location is between US Consulate and ARAMCO Camp, ie Dhahran and not Khobar.

King Faisal Uni is not as impressive and does not attract many Western teachers. It is located in Dammam.

I said KFUPM is in the Khobar area. Also, KFU(King Faisal Uni) is in Hofuf - 140 km from Dhahran.

I can only guess but I think no to the dog, and probably no to the bikinis, but then what can the women wear to swim in that KFUPM pool, can they tan etc.. like in other compounds?

Some people import dogs; others feed the numerous feral cats.

I don't know what women wear at the pool because the pool is strictly segregated according to gender.

I had assumed that, nowadays, tanning was limited to the leather industry. Anyone attempting to tan themselves in KSA would probably need to have a fair amount of parking space between their ears. Rolling Eyes

Laughing Like everything else that is bad for your health...

If you do not have ideal setting IE: swimming pool etc, improvise.
You might luck out with a private balcony or patio or create some privacy with screens -plants...where you can lay out in your bikini and turn your skin to leather in no time.

Bikinis are not permitted in public places - and that includes the campus swimming pools. I know people on KFUPM campus who keep dogs.

I still can't get this on campus concept, from what I understand there is a separate area for westerners to live and they can have dogs and pets, but the pool is segregated?? and it is not a compound as there are no gates?
what can women wear on this on campus housing area when they walk around in common areas? Do they need to wear the headscarf?

KFUPM doesn't sound bad at all, the salary, work hours and holidays but still can't get this concept of campus housing, that's not a compound. Can anyone elaborate on it taking in mind I have never been to a gulf country.
