I pray that he is. At least his posts are informative, bloody intelligent and highly amusing, unlike one, inappropriately named, 'Healer'... |

He is helpful, kind, and wise, and I (and I'm sure MANY people feel the same!) am always happy to read his posts.
Honestly, if he, or anyone else, has said something that you disagree with, why not a) debate it rationally, or b) let it go? Do you really think that singling him out is going to accomplish anything? (Other than, of course, you seeing a flood of messages from people who feel that his is a voice well worth listening to.)
Sorry, John--I'm sure you don't need people to defend you!

Nah, john doesn't need anyone defending him. But he'll appreciate it all the same.
As I've said elsewhere, johnslat is one of my favorite posters! |

Didn't we just go through this with Capergirl? I guess Johnslat is the flavor of the month...
John's got a lot of good stuff to say... and who really cares if he's addicted or not.. it's his business.
There are bigger problems in the world than this to worry about. |

John's one of the elder statesmen of the boards -- this would be a far duller place without him. Whether he's providing insightful analysis of events in the KSA, grappling with grammar, or punishing us with his puns, he's always fun to read. That's more than you can say for most of us.
Keep it coming, John! |

I don't know if he's addicted or not. He hasn't come to any of the meetings. |

Guest, he's with us in spirit, even when he's prowling the highways and byways of New Mexico! |

Like GOJ, I too haven't seen him at the meetings. He must be too busy on Dave's to attend.
I enjoy John's posts, very witty. I'd love to have coffee with him one day, which is more than I can say for many of you. |

Dear All,
Hi, my name is John, and I'm a daveaholic.
Yup, I'm addicted. But then, I suspect most of you are, also - to some degree, at least. I doubt there's anyone who's not addicted to something, (often things), and I can think of a lot worse habits - well, not only "think of" them; I can recall them.
Why do I come here, spend so much time here in this "virtual community"? That's easy - because most of the posters on Dave's share three major interests of mine:
1. a love of the English language
2. a love of teaching
and
3. a love of traveling the world
And especially now that I'm back in the States, it's not easy (well, how about close to impossible) to find people in the "real world" who have these same passions. Heck, it's difficult enough to find people who share even ONE of them, never mind all three.
So, while I come here to get, and occasionally give, information, the main reason I haunt this site so much is that this is the place where there's an asemblage of like-minded individuals - ones that, while I don't always agree with them (or they with me), still have a "common ground" of interests.
Many thanks for all the kind words so many of you have posted.
If you're ever in the Santa Fe, New Mexico area, PM me; we'll have that "cup of coffee" and I'll give you the guided tour of the locale where I suppose I've finally "settled down" (Though that's by no means a certainty; when you're blessed/cursed with wanderlust, perhaps no one place can ever be "home". And there are still parts of this world I want to experience before I leave it).
Regards,
John
P.S. You have some beautiful photos on that web site of yours, TEAM_PAPUA. |
