It does seem to have a good reputation and a fair boss - valuable commodities in China. However a quick look at their ad reveals a number of mistruths, and, one has to wonder if they are happy to lie in their ads, are they really that trustworthy.
Salary of 7000 to 8000 yuan a month
Not a bad salary, not good either, but, they want you to work 5 days for that, and they don't mention total hours, it rather sounds like a 9 to 5
the average Chinese salary is 1,000 yuan a month.
Thats just an out and out lie. 3,500 maybe
typical meal out in Chengdu for 4 people may cost you 60-80 yuan, the exact same meal in Shanghai, Beijing or any East coast cities will cost you upwards of 500 yuan).
More lies - in Every biggish city in China you can have a bowl of noodles for 6 yuan or go to the western restaurants for rib eyes for 200 yuan
Fixed schedule 5 days a week. Daily built-in prep time. No more than 20 teaching hours per week. SET SCHEDULING GIVES YOU CONSISTENCY AND FREEDOM TO HAVE A LIFE.
Very few foreigners in China work 5 days. If they do, they probably have 2 jobs. A new arrival at my university as ten classes a week, 4 thurs, 4 friday - finished by 1130 on Fri. 5 days is awful for 8,000. In China, to greatly simplify things, people generally want either money or time off, this seems to offer neither.
Cell phones are cheap and easy to get!!
Cell phone prices are pretty much universal throughout China - unless you want a fake
Within walking distance of your house is more then 200 local and western restaurants,
Try going into one of these with 3 friends and 80 rmb in your pocket hoping to be fed...
Necessary living expenses covered up to 150 yuan a month
Assuming this means electricity, gas etc, it is not enough
plus free lunch at school.
I literally would not eat in a Chinese school canteen if I was paid
One year contract (with option to renew).
How many months? Better be 12 months on full pay at a minimum
The school will provide (and pay for) all working documentation.
This is good, but if the ask you to come on an F visa as has been mentioned earlier on this thread, they are asking you to break the law
Foreign but Chinese-speaking boss who will assist you with your transition to your new life in China, so you don’t have to deal with *beep* bosses who want blood from a turnip.
what?
1000 US dollars toward travel costs paid upon completion of contractual term of one year.
Translation : if your travel costs more than $1,000 then you have to pay the balance yourself. It used to be that you submit your ticket for a full refund, now, many places are going this route - $1000 is small for travel
Private school with 3-tiered security, computers in all English classrooms, 20-30 or fewer children per class, and NO MICRO-MANAGEMENT.
All Chinese national holidays plus two weeks of paid vacation, totaling five weeks per year.
Universities get 15 weeks or so, I get 22!!
It does seem like a nice place, but there are pitfalls |

| Golden Apple was my first gig in China. This was before Olive Tree. Nigel is cool. Disregard negative posts about this school. |
