Hi,
This school are advertising at the minute at tefl.com. This place is to be avoided at all costs. I finished teaching there yesterday.
To go into everything that is wrong about this place would be like writing
War and Peace.
Myself and 2 other native teachers started there in January and already we are gone. The first left after 6 weeks. After the owner, Sara, sacked him she tried to get me to do her dirty work and get him to sign an end of 'contract', which is a joke to begin with.
The woman is simply impossible to deal with. Interferes with your classes, belittles your teaching ability, because she has "an English degree".
If you value your sanity and being treated with the common courtesy as employee, AVOID!
P.S. The cider and pinchos are good in thecity |

Thanks for the heads-up.
I spent a Spring teaching in Oviedo before and had a really great director. Sad to hear others arent up to par. |

I know that school. The op is correct. Keep as far away as possible from that bipolar disaster of a human being who runs it. |

I worked at that school for way too long (a year and a half) and I can tell you it's not as bad as the OP says, it's actually worse.
First there's the pay. I started at 8.00 and finished at 21.30 nearly every day with loads of hours in between classes that were not paid. After accounting for petrol, train and bus tickets I barely made over €700. An insult. Less than 10% of this income was reported to tax authorities so in their records I supposedly only worked there for 19 days.
The boss is absolutely insane. One day she asked me for a book (which I had left home because she had given me permission to do so as I would be using it the next morning at an "on-site" corporate class). She then blew a gasket and completely went berserk. She went through my stuff, threw my things in the rubbish bin, called me all sorts of names and said something about performing a bodily function on my mother.
Needless to say, I quit. I provided a two-week notice and was paid for only part of the services provided.
Since she still owed me €160, I stopped by to ask for my money. She went nuts and began screaming and even became physically violent. She then called my parents to scream some profanities at them and went to the police to report that I had harassed her. Yes, she made up false claims and filed criminal charges.
Fortunately I recorded the entire event on my mobile phone and submitted it as evidence during the trial (I was acquitted). The only reason I did not report her for defamation was because I wanted to forget about the whole ordeal.
The rest of you beware! This is a TERRIBLE place to work at! |

I can't dispute anything said about the school, of which I have no knowledge, but think that starting early and finishing late is probably a fact of life for lots of English teachers in Spain, assuming that they want to get a "full" timetable.
Schools tend to have hours first thing in the morning, some lunchtime, some early afternoon, lots around six (kids after school), more in the evening, and some Saturdays.
To get more than about 5 or 6 classes (or about 15-25 hours a week contact hours), you're probably going to finish up with a fairly rotten timetable.
And no, no school is going to pay you for the hours in between.
I'm not saying that's as it should be, I'm saying it's the lot of your average teacher in Spain. It's NOT a 9-to-5 job! |
