Spiral - Yep. For the average/normal American teacher, that's absolutely true. However, I have a long list of Italian and Sicilian clients as well as three years experience working directly with Italian agents. There are many, many people there who have my CV, including lawyers, executives and artists. When I received the initial email, the notion of a scam never crossed my mind because I have more than my fair share of Italian connections.

Santi - I'm an American who is in the process of gaining Italian citizenship. With any luck, I'll have my EU passport within a year.

Still ... it's a big, fat bowl of disappointment.

Yes, once you get the citizenship you are good to go. Alternatively, if you landed a job with a US company operating in Italy through your contacts.

But not as a CELTA qualified EFL teacher at a language school, as a US citizen.

Spiral - Thanks for the thread! Shall I post the details of my heartbreak horror show in a similar fashion? I have already contacted the school to let them know that they've been jacked.
