Would anyone mind giving me an idea of how much it typically costs to pay for electricity, water, the Residence Permit, the health examination, the foreign expert certificate, and the Z-Visa? I'm still discussing some of these things with the school; the woman I've been speaking with said that the school will cover the water, half of the Residence Permit, and the full foreign expert certificate, but none of these have been reflected in the contract yet, although some people I've spoken with who worked at the school in the past said they didn't have to pay for them. How much money would I be spending on each of these? I may ultimately end up signing the contract anyways and just hoping the school honors what the HR told me, figuring I can still cover the expenses if not.

utlities maybe 200 -300 rmb a month, more if you run the aircon a lot (or heating). Ha, just saw your note about them covering the water. Water rates can be 20-30 rmb a month! it's the electricity that's the big bill.
medical exam about 600 rmb (580 in Shanghai)
RP maybe 400 rmb (I was in the PSB office when the FAO handed over money , and it looked something like that kind of amount).
FEC - no clue . I have never been involved in the process of getting the FEC.
Z visa - from memory 800 rmb (in HK). In the UK it would probably be more.

Make sure you have the HR's concessions in writing , so you can produce it later. Hoping things get honoured is not advised!

medical exam should run around 300 rmb. add another 50 rmb if
you want same-day results.

RP is 400 for under a year, 800 for a year.

Z-visa depends on nationality. if i recall, for 'merkans it's US$140.

you'll be getting your zisa in your hometown, yes? they
ain't axing you to come on a tourist visa?

I've never paid for in-China permit-related costs, except that in my last job Admin introduced a capped allowance for utilities.
It wasn't ungenerous and I never actually had anything deducted from my salary for this reason.
I had to buy my own PICC health insurance though.
