Hi all,

Never thought i 'd be back to KSA/ Gulf to teach, but jobs so lousy in US (don't get me started) Last 48 decided to seriously look into Gulf/KSA jobs.

On good side- I have basic Arabic ,CELTA, 3 yrs KSA (SANG) teaching & six of ESL in Japan Before my MA in French from a top school was "good 'nuff" w/celta & experience.

Since left KSA in '06. seems like LOTS of junior colleges added programs (maybe just my impression) which could be good for us ESLer's. Really dont hope for great living quarters just chance to bank over $1200/month like b4.

so QUESTIONS are: # 1. Could an MA in FRENCH count like MA in LINGUISTICS ??? ((my last contract maybe was the exception, huh ?))

#2. Just turned 'old' this year but still in great shape (still not pension age Laughing ) that OK?

# 3. Was outta ESL about 6 yrs now though, in fact,...my work for LAZY, US military always included motivating linguists & lang studies since NO ONe else will do so (busy flyin' drones /burning dollarz..) ...Hope the break does not DQ me !!

Anyway, getting long this question so will end it, just by asking any general advice since things have changed ....open to suggestions.
--THANKS-- ( - Murakami - Very Happy )

Simple answer: You need to apply to see what your qualifications (i.e., unrelated degree, unstated age, and long absence from TEFL) might get you. Those positions most likely will be with some contracting company.

What is "old"? Putting a number on that will help get a more accurate answer.

As to the rest of the questions, NS gave the answer... apply and see...

Thanks for quick response. Despite my time in KSA (not spent networking obviously ...more joining runs of RRR & finding good thai food)
...despite some knowledge of ARAMCO, heard of HAK & know some college names, not sure who the ** contracting ** firms are. Is there a list posted somewhere with contacts, instead of me waiting for them to post at Dave's. I understand I must do some research ( is a given) but I know that often best info comes from bloggers & posters such as your self.

As far as age ... I just know in Japan (Korea) they react a bit odd to applicants in mid-40's for example. just want to be reassured that
as UNDER 55 now, not chubby or wheezing or such (very good health) imagine they can deal with "45-ish" Laughing I ll spare you my YOGA pose pics Smile ....So besides applying to selected school ads, I should look into the contractors, it seems. Also applied ( & will again) to some in Oman to have more options

thanks again.

No, there is no handy dandy list of names and addresses for you. Recruiters/contractors come and go with regularity. Check out the various TEFL job boards and see who is advertising.

If you want to try a university, check KFUPM and see if they are taking applications. But, don't expect to get credit for your unrelated MA at any university job in the Gulf. (unless you manage to find an opening to teach French?)

Issues with age tend to start in the late 50s. Normally if you are already hired, they won't get rid of you as long as you can handle the job. There are plenty of teachers in their late 60s and even 70s still teaching, but they have been there for some years. (ie... hired in their early 50s or before)

In the ELI prep-program at KAU, once a person turns 63, they can't return for the upcoming year. I have seen some instructors “wasta” their way into another year during their 63rd year, but it’s rare.

Contractors for English teachers to Aramco include: HAK, Al Hoty, Al Falak, SRACO and JATCO

but recruiters usually post job ads not contractors. If interested, ask the recruiter who the contractor is and they should tell you up front.
