The school is considering to offer me a job for the next school year 2014-2015, but they asked me to provide them with copies of my current expert certificate that I currently have in China from the current school.
I find this odd since I am not given a contract to sign and I haven't even accepted anything...

Seems unusual but I don't think there's anything sinister.
Certainly they are 'in early' for the academic year in Sept 2014, but again, no bad thing in itself.

That is a bit early. Did you even apply for the position? Would you want your present employer to know that you applied elsewhere?

They probably want to know that you can get an expert's certificate here ; I agree it's unlikely to be anything sinister.
If you have the certificate , you could just email them a scan of it, but my employer at least (and some previous ones) keeps the certificate , even though it 'belongs to' the employee.

Bud does raise a good point.
Say to yourself - if my current employer found out about me being in discussion with and employer for 2014/15, would it impact adversely?
It could of course, be helpful, as they may up the ante to get you to stay.
For older teachers, continuity of service can help renewal of residence. This is because some areas seem to be more 'rule-happy' than previously.
If you're in the older group, factor this in to your employment considerations.

It's a non-issue and everyone else seems to be making it something it isn't. The employer wants proof of your certificate to see you are legal and employable. If you have no certificate then there is additional expense, complication, time, etc. to hiring you. Transferring credentials is much simpler than a new hire.

Just give them what they want or don't consider the job.

If you are moving provinces , then it is not just a question of 'transferring credentials', because you will need a new FEC in the new province (taking time , and expense). Sight of your FEC will just give your new employer re-assurance about your current status.

WL seems to read only part of OP.
This is for a job starting in 10 months time.
My input and I'm part of 'everyone' was cautiously positive, apart from the timing of this exercise.
