That's true, China's a big place. Yunnan was especially nice when I went there.
Just looking at the Air Quality Index map for China reveals some 'clean' places (though not ideal). The trouble is, I'm not sure how reliable that map is. I mean, if you look at Lanzhou (reportedly one of, if not the, most polluted places in China. The AQI lists '55'.... |

Back in October, when the schools were closed for a week here in Ningbo due to the massive street flooding related to the typhoon, the locals were all saying that they had never ever experienced flooding like that.
Now they are telling me they have never ever seen smog like this. To be sure, this squares with my limited research back in the beginning of August, when I was trying to figure out which contract to accept. I even wrote a post about the honor of being offered a position in Linfen, China, reportedly the most polluted city in the country, if not the world.
But damn, what's next? A plaque of locusts in biblical proportions? |

Just checked the AQI for our coastal home town in the UK, a skin blistering, eyes streaming 9.
Yes 9.
We've got 456 here in Qingdao today.
Even though I'm digging the slight woozy head I can't help but want to have a walk on the prom at home breathing in good old fashioned air. Might go home and start bottling it to send out here. |

Yeah, I'm thinkin' of gettin' out of this polluted mess called Chengdu for three weeks or so in January. Head down South and get my Yunnan on--head far far south to Xishuangbanna and enjoy some warm temperatures while I'm at it.
Then maybe hop over to Guangxi and rent a bike and ride it around. Sounds pretty good to me.
Warm regards,

Here in Wuxi in the 'Su it hit 600 or so overnight, and hasn't really dropped below 250 or so for the past week. Was hoping the drops in temperature and stronger winds today would clear things out, but alas no sign. Kind of a shame since for this time of year the weather on the weekend was beautiful, but no way was I going outside and inhaling the full brunt of that shit. Seriously most of Saturday and Sunday looked as though there was a forest fire somewhere nearby.
Likewise Mambawamba I did a check of my home and it was a whopping 5. And that's a factory town!! Depressingly even vile Linfen has been sitting down around 100.
The trend for air cleanliness in China is certainly falling down the crapper. Seems a lot of negative records have been set this year. Positive side of the coin is the wife refuses to have a baby while we're living in this place for fear of it growing up gimpish, so if any of you kind folks know of a 5~10 year contract available, shoot me a PM!, lol. |

That's a good description of it, and is what I see outside my window right now. I heard it is supposed to clear in the next day. Let's hope so! |

| Woooh-hoooo! We have breathe-able, non toxic well nearly, air today. Rain, strong winds and snow have cleared it. Down to 114. Might even risk taking the boy-child out tomorrow. |

Hey, thanks for posting that video. It was well done. Pretty funny but made the point clear that it's "deadly" serious. Am gonna check out more of his videos.

I note foul air now in glorious Hainan - even Sanya.
The wealthy Northerners visiting on Spring Festival will be hacked to find that the air isn't much better than home. |
