I'm warming to the idea of splitting into 2 classes. Blue and Red watches?
Off duty go to the back rows and study or sleep.
Be an interesting barometer of how interesting your material is when off-watch students take an interest in the lesson. Particularly if they've already done it in the previous period.

Possible. Don't know enough to know for sure. There can be several factors at play. Maybe the school would like all the students to have a class with the FT.

The ideal of fairness and equality is real. So is wanting more money. He's only teaching two classes, so I believe it has more to do about fairness in the minds of the decision makers. Money is also a factor. But in this case, I'm calling fairness so the students without an FT won't get upset. So, the room is packed for only 2 classes. Or maybe he's getting what is in fact a typical classroom in China.

Personally, I would gladly accept two big classes for full time work. You'll work your butt off but it's manageable and fun if you know how. I thrive in large crowds. I can handle 100 students and have prepared lesson plans that I can do on the fly. Did the classroom next door have a problem and cannot commence? Combine them with my class. No problem. I've had a Chinese boss resist this because they want students to have a Western education experience (smaller classes). Big or small, ready to roll! Wooooo! Love it!

I'd like to know how the OP handles it. Has anyone here divided a class into 50% sleeping / 50% learners? I've never tried it. A variation of that is to give instruction to one group, then have them work on a project amongst themselves while giving instruction to another group.
