Hi Guys, I know that you might have heard this questions thousands of times before but here we go , I am changing my career to TEFL and I am looking for a good job offer to start in China- knowing that I don’t have that much experience in teaching- however I have the potentials, I am a little bit confuse of what offer to accept , in other words, what is the salary that I should be expecting? what king of questions should I ask the school? I need your advice and suggestions please ?
THANKS A MILL ! |

There's lots of info you need.
Start here http://wikitravel.org/en/Teaching_English
Then to help you decide which kind of job you want and to ensure that you're not going to be an idiot, read here. I'm not saying accept all the advice, but the late great Raoul is worth listening to.

As for salaries, it depends on place, qualifications, experience etc but the common minimums are 5k for uni gigs and about 8k for language mills. Honestly though this whole issue is a matter for debate, and has been at length.
There are too many things you need to know. There really is a very high chance that you will have a miserable experience if you don't do a lot of research. Your questions are far too wide.
This site (which I guess is a recruiter's of some kind) does include a lot of the pertinent questions. (Obviously their answers are teachChina's, so when you apply for jobs you should find out an employer's answers.)
http://www.china-tesol.com/FAQ_at_TEACH_CHINA/faq_at_teach_china.html
Study the threads here and on Raoul's, and then if you have any further questions, let us know. |

Someone Chinese, perhaps a boss, potential school owner etc, sniffing around and trying to get a feel for salaries?
Way too many errors in that post IMHO. |

Is the OP a psychic? I missed that one!
I don't know as I have the same fondness for that late, not-so-great Raoul. Next you'll be sending the OP over to the much "lauded" eslteachersboard site. (no, no - - run away, run away, far and fast!) |

You should expect to make 25000 for 20 teaching hours a week and want 3 days off.
Don't settle for less...

OP:
Visit abroadchina.org to get a feel for what's being offered in most parts of China. The public school salaries being offered are pretty close to reality. The private schools and the language school salary offerings may be low compared to reality.
Also, contact esljobs.com.. You'll get a very good idea of what's out there. |
