Happy 2014!
I am coming to Turkey in Mid January for the purpose of interviewing and finding a job. I will be in Ankara,Azmir,Antalya and Bursa.
I have a MATESOL, and 1 year teaching experience ,mainly IELTS,TOEFL and TOEIC. I am a US citizen, 60 years old with extensive life experience in the corporate world. I am also able to teach Medical ,legal and Business English.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also it would be nice to meet some of you during my time in Turkey.Thanks!

Since you're not in Turkey, don't you mean you'll be GOING to Turkey?

Either way, there is lots of good information and personal opinion (the good, the bad, and the ugly) on living and working here.

Keep in mind that besides the political turmoil that IS now affecting everyday life, the value of the Turkish Lire, along with the stock market recently dropped like a rock averaging 2.16tl to the U.S. Dollar and was as high as 2.19tl. This sudden devaluation was triggered not only by the ongoing political scandal, but is also being driven by the financial sector where a housing bubble is almost eminent, similar to the what the U.S. recently suffered thru because of almost free money construction loans to developers. Depending on how you are paid, this can affect your bank account and spending ability significantly in the coming year. Also on January 1st the value added taxes on "luxury items" were increased again. For example a new car is now taxed at 45% to 145% of its sale price. Cigarets, fuel, alcohol and many other everyday items suffered the same fate.


With this in mind, some schools will pay you 50/50 in U.S. & TL giving you some buffer but this is becoming rare as most are now hunkering down.
