I'm currently teaching in mainland China and plan to move to Hong Kong to teach in April.

I was wondering what people think my chances are, earning potential, websites to check out, companies and schools to avoid like the plague, and any general advice and tips.

I have three years TEFL experience in Asia (2 in Korean public schools, one in a Chinese private school) an honours degree and a TEFL cert.

I revamped my resume yesterday and it's looking pretty solid but I know that Hong Kong has higher standards and is much more competitive than mainland China. I posted my resume on Dave's and so far have had no offers, compared to China where i had about 36 in 24 hours.

I searched the International job board this afternoon and i only saw four vacancies for Hong Kong; 1 NET government scheme I'm not qualified for, one company I have heard terrible things about and two agencies (which i would prefer to avoid).

Any advice would be appreciated. Preferably from people who are currently living and working in Hong Kong.

Any particular reason for choosing April? Here, that's half-way through 2nd semester, so you'd really have to luck out to get a job at a place other than the sort of mills that need to hire year round because of the high staff attrition rate.

Agency work ain't wonderful, but it is an OK way to get your foot in the door. As you get to know people - and particularly if you get yourself known as a really good teacher - the juicier jobs will open up (same as in the mainland, guanxi is worth a lot more than cv's).
