I was just wondering if a teacher pulls a midnight runner in China can they still teach again? Does the teacher have to wait until there visa expires before they can apply for other jobs? Will the chinese government ever give them another visa? Any advice on this topic will be appreciated.

Thinking about doing it eh?

Yes you can find another job. You won't have to wait until your Visa expires, however, your residence permit will be cancelled. They will issue you another visa if needed. Basically, they're going to be livid, but there's not too much they can do about it.

The term is just starting and you're thinking about running already? I would only consider it as a last option if i'm in a nightmarish situation but I can't imagine being somewhere that bad. Even at the last school I was at which I didn't enjoy, there was enough positives to stick it out. Don't be so quick to run, explore other options.

I did a runner about a year ago and came back home. I'm thinking about going back to China now. I had some serious health issues as well as problems concerning my job teaching. I lost 30lbs my first month in China, I couldn't handle the hot climate and poor A/C. If I do go back I'll be going to northern China next time.

Then you don't need to worry, a year is a long time. Although keep in mind instead of dealing with unbearable heat, you'll be dealing with unbearable cold!

But you shouldn't have any trouble getting a visa and getting over there. So good luck!

Thanks for your help. Incidently, my hometown(Canada) gets down to -50C in the winter thats why climate was an issue for me.

you're screwed! Due to the increase in the number of midnight runs, they have now introduced "Midnight Runner Officers" at all ports of entry. They will be waiting for you. Wink

How did you find that out? If the school doesn't report the incident the government might not know about it. I have the option of renewing my passport which means the ID number on my new pasport will be different than ID number on my old passport. I might be able to get back in.

It's true. there was a very famous Midnight Runners office run by the Department of Education Xian, Yulin, Shaanxi.

They even had an eighties pop band named after them.

I thought it was the other way around. If you see a teacher with eyes glazed over, softly singing "Toora loora toora loo rye ay", you know they are starting to crack, and a run may be imminent!

I did a runner myself back then, because of The Jam I was in. I was a Foreigner stuck in a Level 42 Crowded House next to The Power Station in a Big Country in Asia. Madness!

I don't think my China Crisis came as a surprise to anyone, but there was an easy Fixx. It was a straight choice; Go West or Japan, Join the Escape Club, Dead or Alive. Luckily the Simple Minds of The Police weren't hard to outwit, and I successfully pulled off a Dexy's Midnight Runner with Everything But The Girl, (her name was Wang Chung). For a long time she was angry at my Bad Manners, but a few years later I made a Cameo at her nuptials, bought her a Wedding Present and she forgave me.

A-ha!

Nicely done, Vike, but the younger crowd probably does their "Running" to Jessie Ware.
