Hi, I am looking to teach somewhere in the Middle East during the Fall of 2014. I have a MA in TESOL and three years full-time teaching experience (one year teaching ESL at a university in Korea, one year teaching Social Studies and ESL in the States, and one year as a Title I teacher). I want to teach for a year or two so that I can save money. I would prefer a university gig, but I am flexible. Here are my questions:
1. What countries should I apply to? So far I have my eyes set on Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Any other suggestions?
2. What do you recommend for the job search and applying? Any good websites or contacts?
3. What is the best time to look for jobs? I am starting now.
4. What documents or paperwork should I gather? I have my transcripts and I think my resume is pretty solid with experience and education. |

I don't know if you've already tried the search function? If not, a lot of the basic information you're looking for can be found there. |

If you want to teach for a year or two and save money, Saudi Arabia would be your best bet. You can save money in the UAE, but not as much
2. What do you recommend for the job search and applying? Any good websites or contacts?
www.tesol.org
www.higheredjobs.com
3. What is the best time to look for jobs? I am starting now.
Most people start around January.
4. What documents or paperwork should I gather? I have my transcripts and I think my resume is pretty solid with experience and education.
You should get your Masters degree attested. You may need to get other documents attested, but this depends on the country you are applying to. |

Since you posted on the UAE forum, be aware that university-level positions in the Emirates generally require 3 years of TEFL experience at the tertiary level and contracts are for 3 years. Your quals may fall a bit short.
However, you mention experience teaching social studies and a year as a Title 1 teacher. I assume you have a teaching license from the US. If that's the case, check out Teach Away for international and k-12 school opportunities in the UAE. |
