Hey, has anyone sailed from Cartagena to Panama? I've been thinking about the trip as a back up plan in case I can't find a job in Colombia after my CELTA class.
Also, can anyone say if there is any work outside Panama City and possibly David? In Bocas del Toro? Colon? |

You should ask in a yachting or sailing forum.
It has been done, is often more expensive than flying and sometimes dangerous. (There are pirates.)
Work exists. You would have no work permit. You may be illegal. Setting yourself up as an independant is now possible, but can cost upwards of $10,000 USD.
Good luck with that. |

i did this in 2008----you need to go to the port of cartagena, colombia, and hang out at some of the yacht clubs at night, get to talk to a yacht captain. they have private yachts that will depart for 150 US dollars from cartagena port at night, take you on a 48 hour sailing to the san Blas Islands off the coast of Panama, get the visa stamped there, then another 12-24 hours depending on the weather to sail to colon, Panama. It is dangerous and I do not regret doing it. Just choose your yacht wisely, use intuition, do not get robbed and dumped overboard. It is a gamble, but most people I know succeeded and made it to Pnama. |
