Hey everyone,

I was wondering of those people who have already taught in Mexico could explain how they physically got themselves to Mexico.

Specifically, if you have any tips to get to Monterrey from Canada (Toronto) or Detroit, Michigan.

Is it cheaper to fly into Texas and then get into Monterrey by bus?

Is it cheaper to fly from the US rather than Canada straight into Monterrey?

Anybody know of any good airlines that would make the trip cheap?

Thanks!

Olivia

Hey Olivia,

Why don't you take a look at Travelocity or Expatica online?

Last year, I arrived in LA with no idea about where I wanted to go in Mexico, so I looked on Travelocity and found a cheap one way ticket to Guadalajara, so that's where I went! I can't remember the name of the airline, but their hub is in Phoenix, so I went from LA to Phoenix to Guad. All relatively painless, actually.

I've been to Monterrey airport, and it's very well serviced, although some parts are currently undergoing renovation.

If you want to check out bus prices in the north of Mexico, do a Google on Estrella Blanca. They are part of a group that services the north. When I last looked (Easter) their website was kind of sucky, but maybe they've got it working better now, with price quotes and stuff. Or, you could get hold of a current Lonely Planet, their prices are fairly accurate.

Just wondering, why are you going to Monterrey? Have a job?

Good luck,
Lozwich.

lozwich,

Thanks for the advice.

I'm going to Monterrey because I just got a job there. I will be teaching in a private catholic bilingual school, grade 6.

I just got the news today that I am actually getting the job, so I'm very excited, and only have a month to plan everything.

Smile
