Where can I find large pieces of clean cardboard in D1? I'm looking for a piece about 120cm x 130cm. Normally I would just go to a shipping store back home and buy a new box. Thanks!

I would try the box shops on Nguyen Du, opposite the main post office.

I think the post offices sell boxes. They might sell cardboard too.

Metro, at least the one in district 2, has a large supply of boxes for customers to use instead of bags.

Two possibilities I can think of.

1) Large domestic items such as flat screen TVs and refrigerators are delivered in large boxes. You could ask the stores that sell these things if they have any spare boxes.

2) Bicycle shops. New bikes are delivered to the shops in boxes for assembly. The shops often just throw away the cardboard boxes so are happy to give them away or sell them to you at a very cheap price (a few dollars at most). I've done this on many occasions in many countries (although not in VN). There are a load of bike shops on Vo Thi Sau, District 3. 2km from Benh Tanh Market.

Depending on your requirements you might have to fold the cardboard around whatever it is you're packaging but I've done this before. I've even taped together two boxes to make a larger one. It survived an air flight as checked luggage.

Thanks for the help. I was directed to a cardboard/shipping shop on Hai Ba Trung that worked out, 'virgin' double thick cardboard. While sitting on my bike staring at it trying to figure out how to transport it, he just took it at and stuck it under my bum, sticking out off the back a few feet. It worked great. I'll try those other places should the need arise again.
