Has anyone used nomad as a recruiter? I would appreciate any feedback, I could not find any post on them...
I am new to teaching in china, and have only substitute taught in New Zealand. And seven years of part time esl teaching in nz.
They say they are a free service...is this true? Thanks.

Have no direct knowledge but please do NOT put all your trust in one job search avenue - no matter how much recommendation they might get.

I noticed a few things about some of their job listings...

1. Few of the salaries I saw are high enough for what they are looking for and/or hours required. Beijing for 13k+housing stipend for a 40 hour work week. Qingdao for 25k to teach A-Level classes for 40 hours a week plus you have to act as some kind of 'House Tutor' whatever that means.

The job below is in Beijing...
Quote:
Salary: 12,500 (1-2 months) 14,500 (3-12 months)
Teaching hours per week: 17 - 24
Total hours per week: 30
Schedule 2 week days off. Classed held on evenings and weekends
Housing: allowance included in Salary

2. More than a few seem to want you to do some sort of religious....something.
Quote:
• Support the pastoral work of the school in role of House Tutor.

3. Inflated value of certain benefits.
Quote:
Free housing on campus 60000.00

That was for in Int'l School in Qingdao. For 60k a year they'd have to give you a 4 bedroom in a pretty nice part of the city that isn't in the boonies. I rent a large 2BR w/ a small office...so I guess 3BR in QD for 40k a year in a desirable section of the city. (to those who have seen me post about my house before...I'm not referring to that one, I don't live in this 3BR. Unfortunately.)

Not all the advertised jobs seem bad though, don't get me wrong. There really do not seem to be many though and I see multiple listings from the same schools. As NS said....do not limit yourself to one service. There are many ways to find a job in China. Try them all.
