I've noticed quite a few interesting jobs lately that are with employers who are interviewing at conferences such as iatelfl, tesol.org etc. I don't have the time or means to attend one of these as I'm quite far away from all of the upcoming events (as I'm sure are many others).
Do these employers tend to favour candidates who attend? See them as more dedicated, interested, better candidates in general? If you are really interested job, is it worth attending even though it may be costly? |

Unfortunately, unless your qualifications/experience are strong or highly desirable, it will be hard to compete against those job applicants who are available for face-to-face interviews. Employers like candidates who show initiative. Plus, some employers are likely to extend an offer on the spot. So yes, it would be beneficial to attend such conferences and job fairs. Additionally, they offer opportunities to network, which can also help get your foot in the door. |
