Oh, and a couple PS's.....

When applying for a RP/WP locally, once your paperwork is accepted you are legal to stay in Turkey, even though you don't yet have your BB in-hand. It could take 1-4 weeks to get the book itself. Alhough not technically a visa, it will still allow you to enter and leave the country.

It will take another 4-6 months to get the formal permit to work.

Most people get their job and start work on their 90-day (within 180 days) tourist visa (if from the US/UK/other Tier I countries). Of course, working on the TV is also illegal.

PSS...

The expat website I referred to sometimes is hard to find stuff in. Here is a separate link for the Residence Permit process. Again, subject to change in April and varying by province.

In-country you start off at your local yabangı polis office, where there'll be some variation of RP issued until your WP comes through.

I got you. Most people come on a tourist visa. They work (though they're not supposed to *wink*) until their work permit and residence permit come through. I'm familiar with what you're talking about because we used to do that over here in South Korea several years ago. I imagine you sign a contract before you come, though. Anyway, I'll keep scanning the forums and see what changes are afoot

Thanks again.

Good Luck. And the contract thing as is you expect. But remember, with a contract to hold up a bank, or do anything else illegal, you'll have little recourse in court: you simply have a written agreement to avoid "misunderstandings".
