Sure, well I can still see where oilers is coming from, if you are in a "so-so job" in the UAE, as being legal and a "warm body", you have got nothing to lose by knocking on doors. However, you probably would not receive all the benefits (unless you know someone with big-time wasta), as stated by VS and nomad soul.

Similarly, turning up on a tourist visa looking for a job is not the way to do it - agreed!

Back to my original post then, if anyone wants to post about specific employers who may consider my credentials, please go ahead.

To be clear, oilers mentioned knowing someone with "wasta." Those words never came from me nor VS. We were simply emphasizing the fact that local hires don't get benefits.

Anyway, your biggest issue is getting even a so-so job in the UAE with your qualifications. Perhaps oilers will pop back onto this thread with the names of those employers he/she alluded to. Otherwise, start proactively looking at the list of UAE private universities and colleges on Wikipedia and sending out your CV.

I think I know the UAE and the job market here quite well. I can't think of any places where you would actually stand a chance. HCT? No. ZU? No. UAEU? No. KUSTAR? No. AUS? No. UoS? No. UoW? No. British Council? Perhaps.

When I had my eyes on the UAE years ago, after my first Gulf job in Saudi Arabia eleven years ago and one in Oman after that, I decided to bite the bullet and did the DELTA and got an MA. I really do think it's necessary.

I'm not being a naysayer or a snob here. Like I wrote somewhere on this board a few weeks ago, I know of ONE person who got hired by HCT Fujairah with only a BA and the CELTA, but it really didn't work out well for them. There is no chance of that happening again. At least not in the near future.

I thought about your question for a while before writing this post. Honestly, I just can't think of an employer in the UAE who would consider your credentials.

Let's hope someone turns up and proves us all wrong! Wink
