do i got this straight? instead of just telling a perspective emproyer that
dhl can take a month and planning accordianly, you're gonna go the
tourist visa route?

This happen often.....going on an L visa is a risk (one I took twice)... that is true but not accepting the situation by a university that needs a teacher sooner than later will often result in not having a position .... |

Jim, was your job offer in nanning for acgem?
-Honestly don't remember the name. Another high school prep program looking for subject teachers. Pretty good pay offered to me, maybe 14,000 but one month non-paid summer. The kids were supposedly flunk outs but worked harder as it was their last chance. So the foreign manager said. Though he seemed to shoot straight.
In defense of the poster, nobody would expect a DHL express package to take a month to arrive (that is until you have lived here and learned).
Does the OP really want to go back to China or is he desperate for a job? If the latter you may want to move down to Cebu City from the Northern part of the island. There are jobs here that will pay 40-50k pesos a month which is ok. Japanese schools are much better than Korean in every way though the kimchi at the free breakfast and lunch did grow on me. Problem is you can't make better if you do specialized ESL like I do.
Also, you can rent a dedicated computer with fast and redundant Internet service in IT Park and do online teaching that route. I was going to go back to that as we talked about with English Tone, but picked up more economic research gigs instead which will allow me to lead the typical expat life here (namely having a smoking hot young girlfriend and paying dearly for it by supporting her and her mountain tribe family) without drawing on savings.
The call centers also employ foreigners and pay a little better. But like China they are now enforcing visas so make sure they sponsor you.
I think you are focused on China though. Let us hope it works out well for you. |

I prefer living and working in the Philippines to China. Philippines makes sense most of the time, China doesn't. If I can find a job in the Philippines that I like then I'll stay. That way I can spend quality time with my smoking hot mountain bride because I don't need to support her family. However, I did find a visa service in HK airport should I need it.
