Hi fellow China teachers,

Has anyone worked at this place or do you know anything about working there? They've offered me a job - it sounds good - but I want to make sure of that before I go there with my kid (I'm a single mom), since things in China often aren't what they seem...

Thanks very much!

There's some stuff written here that you need to know even if it's a bit dated: http://raoulschinasaloon.com/index.php?topic=136.msg141099#msg141099

Didn't plough through all the link given, but it seemed to relate to a different uni in a different province.
Xuzhou is in the very north (and gritty end) of Jiangsu, so you should be prepared for a less sophisticated and more basic experience than you would find in say Suzhou or Wuxi. The uni's name gives a clue to the kind of city to expect....
Southerners in the province (south of the Yangtse ) definitely look down on the northern cities.
Now Xuzhou has excellent and fast transport links with the new G train through Nanjing, and north into Shandong, but it may still feel remote.
Sorry I can't help with more specific info about the uni: best try to contact the current foreign teachers there.

You probably won't be teaching English to very good students. Find a university that has an English major program.

Agree, this kind of uni will have lots of male science/engineering students , who have little interest in language learning, and maybe also little interest in and awareness of the outside world.
Could be a hard gig.
