I feel it is time to start to share some of the wonderful attacks upon the English language that our HOD makes on a daily basis.

The first example:

Yet again:

This arrangements will affect the course delivery adversely.

Kindly be reminded that teachers should consult the coordinators and HoD before signing in a paper to accept more students.

The HOD's continuing assault upon the English language:

There is an offer from one of the Travel agents in Muscat to provide our college staff with a real discount on plane ticket to variuos destinations internationally.

If you are interested, please send me the destinations you might want to know the offer for. This team will be at the college on Wedesaday for a direct communication.

Many people I have worked with also have PhDs. It's a well known fact that they pay people to do the work for them. I still don't get how someone can say I have a PhD from blank and my englishee is baduh.

So the guy misspells or puts silly spaces in a few words, and used an unnecessary preposition ('signing in a paper' - handing in a signed paper?). There are a number of native-speakers here on Dave's that this HOD would put to shame!

Does anyone else notice or remark upon the mistakes, or does an HOD in Oman not actually need impeccable English? (But I thunk I know the answer to this one LOL)

I'm afraid the HOD's attitude to the teachers does ensure that his mistakes are noted and commented upon. Actually I DO think that somebody who boasts incessantly about having a Ph.D. in English but cannot use the language correctly should be held to account. Luckily enough he doesn't teach and so can't inflict his ignorance upon the students!

Isn't there some Arabic proverb you can slip in? Something like "The worm shamelessly parading about in daylight soon gets pecked by the crows".
