How comfortable is 3500 lira a month for a family of 3 in Ankara, Izmir, and/or Istanbul? This does not include housing.

Are there turkish nannies available and how much would that cost?

Thanks

With that amount of disposal income at your fingertips and the rent not an issue, you can live well. The nanny side of things may be an obstacle, but just depends how much you think a nanny (especially a Turkish one) should influence the formative years of your child, try to find a foreign single female to live in, there are plenty around, may have more idea about child care than the average local female.

I suggest that you also consider leaving a decent cushion if you are being paid in lira only. Take into account the path that Turkey is currently headed in politically and the recent fluctuations in the lira. Here is a link to some historical data. http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=USD&to=TRY&view=1Y The spikes can be significant and take a big bite out of your disposable income.

Being a parent and having just come out of that phase, I agree with sıxthchid re the nanny and getting someone non-Turkish.
Unless of course your culture is similar to Turkish culture re attitudes towards children (which mine isn't)

That amount is not enough for istanbul. You ll do well in Ankara and Izmir. Places for Rent in Ankara:

Bahceli evler c is pronounced ch. very nice but old houses, really crowded. 20 yr olds love living there. Rent is about 500 tl.

Knout kent-far from city but nice quiet almost newish region. Rents about 500-750

Dikmen- old region, not so pretty, has many villagers. Rent is less than 500.

There's a place it's like reconstructed. So brand new apartments with a mall and a huge market close to it. People don't prefer living there but it's a decent new place. It s before METU university- cukurambar. Even the name is not nice. Meaning a place with holes. But as I said it's brand new now with pretty apartments. Unfortunately I don't have a clue about rent. Just tell the driver to take you there you'll find plenty of apartments with numbers.

Taxi are REALLY expensive and they will screw you. Take buses. Believe me you'll be happier. At least until you get to the place then you can use a taxi for hunting.

I don't know about ist. And Izmir. But stay away from Izmir. At least for the first year. Unless you want a life go only to istanbul and hopefully things will work out eventually. I think it would be difficult if you are trying to budget. Hope all this works
