|
|
Hi everyone,
The missus and I are looking at CELTA courses in Prague for the coming summer, and since she's American, we need to email schools to find out which give help with visas and job searching. However, a Google search found only 3 - Aczent (who don't offer any help), Cactus TEFL (who I've emailed twice to no avail) and learn4good, from whom I'm awaiting a reply.
Can anyone recommend some schools in the area, so I can pop them an email? There can't only be 3. Incidentally if you know ones that offer Americans plenty of help that would be just terrific as well.
Thanks in advance.
Ninja edit: just had an email from learn4good, they offer help and have a "90% success rate when it comes to placing graduates". |

She doesn't need help with a visa, as she's automatically entitled to a residence permit as the spouse of an EU citizen.
For that reason, you certainly shouldn't just take the first course that comes up. |

Neither Cactus nor Learm4good are course providers. Cactus Is a middleman, selling spots in various courses for a commission. TEFL courses in Prague meeting the "CELTA-equivalency" standard are offered by:
Akcent IH (CELTA)
Oxford TEFL (Trinity)
TEFL Worldwide Prague (high quality generic TEFL)
Language House Prague
ITTP
I would avoid companies such as ITTT and TEFL International which are large international companies where quality control is poor, or at best inconsistent.

I'll be running the next TEFL International course in Prague (May - June) and I'm quite good.
Oxford TEFL are very good too. And I've heard good things about Akcent.
Avoid ITTP whatever you do. |

I went through the Language House and enjoyed it. I've heard good things about Oxford and TEFL Worldwide as well. |

John, I'm curious about your reasons for advising against ITTP. Do they have to do with the course itself, or are they about the owner/director? I included ITTP only because the course does tick all of the CELTA-equivalency boxes. While I have heard rumors of people having conflicts with the director, I don't have any first (or second) hand knowledge of the issues involved. You are certainly in a better position than I to give sound advice about this course, but I'm curious about your reasons for such a strongly worded recommendation to stay away.
I also want to say that my reservations about TEFL International have absolutely nothing to do with johncoan's qualifications or abilities as a trainer. From his posts on Dave's, he appears experienced and well-qualified.

Hello Academies TEFL is also "CELTA equivalent". The course is accredited by the same agency as Language House (IATQuO). |

Yes, avoid ITTP. Don't give them any money. They took mine and I'm trying to get it back. It's a professional scam of the highest order. |
