My cousin emailed me today to say she was offered a teaching gig with a famous high school in Tianjin but then was worried about all the pollution articles she's been reading since she started to Google Tianjin yesterday. They offered her a nice salary (She is AP certified) but is it worth the health risk?

Are any of you guys teaching in Tianjin? How bad is the air and water and how good is the quality of life there? If you are teaching out there would you do it again if given a do-over?

look at the data of the last 5 days on aqicn http://aqicn.org/city/tianjin/m/
its similar like almost everywhere in China, but due to winds it seems more up and down, which I prefer - because on bad days I would just wear a 3M mask (those with 99% filter)

I consider my life here pretty healthy - I cook noodles and soups with bottled water instead of metal-polluted tap water, I have an air purifier, on bad smog days I don't leave house without mask, I know the good and "safe" restaurants in town, etc...

I go there sometime as there is a bike market there.. and a pack of thieves they are...

Air quality bout the same as Beijing.. these days blue skies....little to do .. close to Beijing but still to far to just pop up .... most of the folk who I know .. (non teachers) who have accepted jobs there .. have left after the first contract

So many famous high schools in China! And many international ones too where the only thing international about it is the token lao wai or two.

But was this Tianjin Yinghua?
