I thinkist is 5500RMB which is not enough for the ammount of work they require...some EFs are good while some are bad...it is the owner who sets the pace.. |

Too little for the amount of work required. It's supposedly 5500 RMB per month for a FT.
However, the individual franchisees will not ever pay you the full amount. many of EF franchises have very creative accounting practices. You won't always get paid for the hours you work based on how the school figures contact hours and other work assigned. Many franchises will also deduct from your monthly salary huge amounts for the crappy shared accomodation they provide, fictitious gas, water, and electricity charges for aforesaid accommodation, hyped accommodation maintenance fees (a cleaner sweeps outside the building and you pay), and you may even have money deducted for translation services if you ever need help to do anything from the chinese staff (i.e. talk to a parent or take a taxi and need help telling the driver where to go). One franchise in Anhui is notorious for even deducting from its FTs salaries a monthly fee for using the photocopier and computer for job related things. |

5500 on the last day of the month, every month.

Are you drunk?
I know that I have a very good deal where I am (as I've mentioned before on this board) and that my school is not representative of most of the EF schools here in China, but I'm sure that the others can't be as bad as outlined above?
note to the OP - do a search, there's tons of EF stuff on here.

I had some friends at the EF inChangchun and yes they clam that they paid out of bounds utilities and additonal cost while being ask to work 35 hours plus..not all were class time..some were interviewing and doing promotional work. One girl also told me that when she was moving out of her apartment, thins went misssing. There were also talk of the Chinese owner getting rid of non white employees when white ones became available. |

Haven't been with EF since last year, but I'm in the same boat as TEAM_PAPUA here. Pay was always in full and prompt, no deductions. Bills for utilities and the phone were always small and shown transparently to us. There appear to be good and bad EF franchises in China - if you end up with a good one then I'd wager there are much, much worse places to work.

Oscar, apologies for picking up on your last comment regarding increased pay. In fact this scale does not increase your pay, the school is holding back money from your first 3 months, to give you in your last 3 months (maybe I'm wrong) then pay you the normal rate for 6 months in between. I strongly disagree with this practice as it's advertised as an incentive but isn't.
EF do find it hard to keep their teachers for a second year as the pay increase & benefits aren't enough. I won't stay, but I feel that I've been lucky when I compare my experiences with others. i do feel that my school will get worse with time as it expands & the money starts to pour in - this is sadly evident now, but it doesn't affect me.
I strongly suggest contacting teachers directly before commiting to any EF school as they are all very different indeed.
