Looks like the new Dean at KSU means business.

120 Education Experts staff will get fired soon as they will be replaced with better staff.

Lists will be issued next week of who is getting kept on and whomis getting fired.

KSU has new entrance requirements for recruiting teachers.

You need a Masters with 3 years post experience or a BA degree and a CELTA/TEFL with 5 years post experience.

The original starting salary with Education Experts for someone with a BA degree TEFL/CELTA and 2 years experience was basic SR 11,500 plus SR 2750 Accomodation and Travel SR 600 a total package of SR 14850.

Now they are offering starting salary SR 15000 basic plus accomodation SR 2750 and Travel SR 600 total package SR 18350

What a difference in packages one are the days you get an easy contract job at KSU biggest University in the Middle East.

Contract companies like Edex and Iceat are struggling to provide KSU with the staff that have the new requirements.

Edex with various contracts in the Kingdom will try and relocate fired staff to other projects.

ICEAT only have KSU as a sole contract.

It goes to show things are getting tougher in the ESL/EFL world in Saudi. Finding a position might not be easy if youndo not posses the right qualifications and experience.

Anybody from Edex or Iceat working at KSU share any experiences about the changes at KSU?

A voice inside his head. Probably the same one that taught him his skills in writing.

I have a friend who works for them through Edex and has been teaching their for 2 years.

If you look at the latest job ad for Edex KSU it states the new criteria required for the position and the new salary.

But...

Is it worth 18,000sr a month to work for edex when the chances are good that a person will either quit, or get fired within the first few months? In addition, the chances are even greater that people will keep getting ripped-off on a daily basis.

Teachers can go to a direct hire position with the requirements listed in the edex ad.

Wouldn't work for Edex for less than 20,000, if even that.

So, is a university actually raising its standards? This would be good to see. It might actually put an end to the likes of Edex and ICEAT (just dreaming). I hope KSA will make it easier for the universities to do hiring by themselves in the future.

University raising standards??? Please!

How about raising standards with the calibre of students who are being paid to come to 'school'! Twisted Evil Exclamation

Some of them have to go to uni, because the au pair /parents can't be bothered to look after them anymore, so for about 6 hours the 'students' are let loose on us.

It's not possible. At least not immediately.

Not everybody is suited for university. The world needs taxi drivers, people to work in service related industries, farmers, blue-color workers, etc...

In KSA, most (99.9%??) can get in who apply and some feel that getting in is all it takes to "earn" a degree. Until admission standards are raised and enforced, the educational standards in KSA will remain the same. I would rate the current standard "Level Brown" because brown is the color of crap. Razz

Yeah, but I'd say the same for a few of the ESL teachers working for the likes of Edex, Interlink, and ICEAT. Most of us just work for them by mistake, but some should be or really are taxi drivers, sales personnel, or whatever. it's good if universities won't tolerate it with these companies any longer.
