Yes, of course you should negotiate.

I currently have a part-time job which pays 250 per hour. I've been working there for 6 months and have had no problems, it's a great school and I get 12 hours a week.

I have a class every Saturday morning from 10-12 which pays 500. This Saturday they want me to host a school event from 10-12 and want to pay me 200. My class will be covered by another foreign teacher who has a salary. So it appears they just want me to do it to save a few hundred rmb. Should I negotiate the pay for the two hours?

I've never had to go in for meetings, or do any pointless paperwork so I think I'll probably just suck it up and do it.

What are your thoughts?

If you plan on coming back to work for them next year then doing something like this on the cheap can be a pretty good show of faith.

On the other hand you may want to make mention that this isn't something you want to be doing regularly, otherwise you could be stuck doing it whenever it comes up.

So...the choice is yours I guess

Suck it up and go. My university back home expected MA lecturers to head a club, and graduate faculty to advise and attend functions.

That''s an MA lecturer, his part time job is most likely just a private language center, which of course already makes a profit, you can't require someone to work in such a manner, you can ask...... But requiring such? No way!
