Muscatgary

Clearly they should make you HOD since, as well as being a native speaker, you have an endless reserve of tact and diplomacy.

I'm afraid the HOD has even less of the above than ability in the language!

Scot47, Your sarcasm seems to be lost on Muscangary.

So, let me belabour the point for you.

Muscatgary, if this is all you can come up with as examples of your HOD's "unforgivable" English skills, it makes you seem incredibly petty.

I never said they were unforgiveable but they are unacceptable from somebody who is in overall charge of the English language programme including training future English language teachers.

Again, I think they're harmless here and rather funny. In my workplace, we have a number of very overly-polite signage in strategic areas which I might add to the thread, so long as I am sure no-one involved will know.

I was rather hoping others might do this as I find it funny that places that employ large numbers of native speakers very rarely consult them before putting up signs/notices etc. My favourite to date was a HUGE sign saying 'Welcome to ******* Collage.'

And then, there was that very large and undoubtedly expensive billboard that, for a time, used to grace the highway that runs from the airport into Riyadh:

"YOU ARE ALMOST WELCOME"

Hmm, come to think on it, maybe it WASN'T a mistake. Very Happy

Regards,
John
