I agree with Candles
we PNU PYP teachers are cannon fodder - if you have nerves of steel and a lot of energy, you'll manage, but be prepared to be exhausted, have no aims of teaching anything, kow tow to the bosses, take your cash and get out asap..others will be recruited to fill your place..and be prepared to get fat...I have never worked with so many fat colleagues (or put on so much weight so quickly myself)

So my final question to you is, how is one able to maintain their principles as an educator and exist in the environment you are in?

Sometimes I imagine it's like Haiti here, with the earthquake being the sudden, unearned and unprecedented availability of money. We're dealing with the aftermath of that. So, like an aid worker, I tell myself I'm making a difference, when in fact it doesn't happen that often really. I'm like a typical NGO worker, doing little but living pretty well despite all the onerous day to day mucking thru crap. It's only reasonable I get paid for being here.

There are always those among us who will forever be doing big things, but sadly, not me. If I get thru to a couple students in a class that's remarkable. If I don't, I get in my NGO cruiser and sail away.

How come? No gym in PNU to go to, or no health insurance to cover obesity surgery? Laughing

It seems obesity is not only your concern, it is also the major concern of the Magic Kingdom, where 70% of Saudis are obese!!

"Obesity is fast turning out to be a major cause of concern for the Kingdom with seven out of 10 Saudis suffering from obesity, and 37 percent of Saudi women facing problems related to overweight. And to top it all, their problems are compounded because health insurance does not cover obesity surgery."

One option to defeat obesity is to take Tamis and Foul instead of junk food.
