Can anyone advise which of these might be preferable for a woman to teach at, and how to go about applying for jobs at either? They both appear to hire direct only, and it is hard to find any working links on their websites.
Any up-to-date info on either university? I am aware there were problems in Abha last year that led to a regime change.
Also, any other leads for jobs in this general region (far south west)? Khamis Mushayit?
Any help/suggestions gratefully appreciated, either by PM or in response to this thread.
Thanks in advance! |

I have been in Abha between 1995 and 2005, and visited Jizan during that time. Abha, as a city, is much better than Jizan, culturally, weather, and social life. Also, according to one friend who is still working with King Khaled University, told me that things have improved compared to last year.
The university in Jizan used to be a branch of King Khaled university, but now it is an independent university by itself, but is not good as King Khaled university.
Definitely, I recommend King Khaled university and Abha city for a woman.
You need to send your CV directly to the head of department with King Khaled university, and enquire with them for possible faculty position for January/September 2013.
Good luck.

Many thanks. Any idea how to find the details of the right person to send a CV to? The KKU website email addresses don't seem to get me anywhere... |

I worked in Jizan this time last year at another school that doesn't have women students or teachers. I saw parts of Jizan University. The University of Jizan has a nice compound across from the ocean. I heard it was OK. The climates are completely different between Abha/Khamis and Jizan. Jizan is a steam bath. Abha is a hill station, with the best climate in KSA, in my opinion. Not sure about where to send your CV to in either place. They are about 4 hours drive from one to the other, depending on your speed and the traffic. So you could go to the mountains on holidays from Jizan, or to the beach from Abha. |

Thanks, yes, the emails on the websites don't work, hence why I was posting here. Any info about contact details for KKU in particular would be gratefully appreciated. |

As a place to live in or go to, Abha wins over Jaizan. However the main factor for anyone working in KSAis how good or bad your employer is.
Check out if you can with people who have worked in these universities. |

Uh, yes, that's what I was trying to do, by posting on a forum for ESL teachers...
But in case I was unclear in my original post: it would be great to get any info about these two universities and contact details for people working there/the people in charge.
Many thanks in advance for anyone's help, and I will keep you all updated with my own findings. |
